Job summary

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office offers a 2L Summer Internship, a ten-week program providing exposure to the prosecutor’s role in the Philadelphia criminal justice system. Interns will rotate with Trial Division or Law Division units, based on office needs and demonstrated ability and work ethic.

Duties include handling misdemeanor trials and felony preliminary hearings in Municipal or Family Court, or researching caselaw, drafting briefs, and potential court appearances for the PCRA

Qualifications

Summary Of 2L Summer Internship Program

Our Second-Year Law Student Internship is a ten-week program designed to provide second-year law students with maximum exposure to the practical aspects of the prosecutor's role in the Philadelphia criminal justice system. During the summer, interns will either rotate with our trial or law division units. The assignments are based on the needs of the office and one’s demonstrated ability and work ethic. Our Trial Division comprises the Municipal Court Unit, Pre‑Trial Unit, Diversion Unit, Juvenile Court Unit, and other specialized units throughout the office. Our Law Division is comprised of Appeals, Civil Litigation, Federal Litigation, and Post‑Conviction Relief Act (PCRA).

Duties & Responsibilities

• Trial Division: Handle misdemeanor trials and felony preliminary hearings within the Municipal or Family Court.
• Law Division: Assignments primarily involve researching caselaw and statutes, drafting and writing briefs or memos, and potential court appearances on behalf of the PCRA Unit.
