Job summary

Dartmouth College Counseling Center is seeking a Suicide Prevention & Outreach Specialist/Counselor in Hanover, NH. This exempt, regular full-time role will expand the campus-wide suicide prevention program and provide counseling to students.

The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in social work or psychology, with direct clinical experience and a commitment to diversity in service delivery. The position requires licensure eligibility in New Hampshire within two years.

Qualifications

  • PhD plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years direct clinical experience (can include internship).
  • Diversity in delivery of clinical services and outreach/programming.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a comprehensive suicide prevention program on campus.
  • Coordinates and implements suicide prevention trainings for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provides triage appointments, short-term counseling, and risk assessments.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary counseling center to support campus mental health.
  • Ensures program evaluation and continuous improvement of outreach efforts.
  • Maintains professionalism and collaboration across campus communities.

Position Purpose

Dartmouth College Counseling Center has an opening for a SuicidePrevention & Outreach Specialist/Counselor. This position willfurther our already existing campus-wide suicide preventionprogram. The individual in this position will work with the SuicidePrevention team to plan, design, coordinate, and implement acomprehensive suicide prevention program, as well as providecounseling to Dartmouth students.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Master of Social Work ( MSW ), MA in Counseling from CACREPprogram, Doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Clinical or CounselingPsychology.
  • Two years direct clinical experience (can includeinternship).
  • Demonstrated competency, experience, and commitment to issuesof diversity in the delivery of clinical services and inoutreach/programming.
  • Professional experience in developing, implementing, andevaluating community health programs.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary college/universitycounseling center setting.
  • Candidates must hold a New Hampshire license or be eligible forlicensure within two years of hire. The license must be awarded nolater than three years after the date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperativeworking relationships within a diverse multiculturalenvironment.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to communicateeffectively in both written and verbal form with a variety ofaudiences, including students, faculty, and staff.

  • 20% Development and implementation of a comprehensive mental healthpromotion and suicide prevention program aimed at improving collegestudents’ mental health and well-being.
  • 10% In collaboration with the Suicide Prevention Coordinator, developsa strategic, evidence-based cohesive plan for the Dartmouth Cares:Suicide Prevention Program.
  • 10% Coordinates and assists in providing suicide prevention trainingsfor students, faculty, and staff.
  • 5% Attention specifically to underserved, marginalized groups toensure that the programming/outreach is being sensitive to issuesof diversity and privilege in creation and delivery of suicideprevention program/information.
  • 5% Engages in outcome and process evaluation, including collection,analysis, and presentation of information to determine thatprograms are effectively engaging the community and resulting ingreater awareness.
  • 40% Provides triage appointments, short-term individual/groupcounseling, risk assessment/mandated risk assessments.
  • 5% Makes appropriate treatment planning decisions as to the level ofcare needed, type and longevity of treatment, and whether treatmentis best received on campus or in the community.
  • 5% Shares rotation for providing daytime and after-hours on-callcrisis services.
  • 5% Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions,interactions, and communications with others appropriate to anenvironment that is welcoming to all.
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned.
