Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida is seeking a Sugar Boiler to operate steam heated vacuum pans and batch cookers during harvest season. You will set temperature and pressure gauges, monitor crystallization, and discharge massecuite with uniform crystals while maintaining safety and efficiency.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 3 years in sugar fabrication, with strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and set temperatures and pressures on vacuum pans and batch cookers.
  • Control sugar crystallization and discharging massecuite with proper crystal size.
  • Ensure correct purity and Brix in minimum time per production goals.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area in compliance with safety procedures.
  • Operate plant computers and monitor multiple screens.

Job description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Sugar Boiler assists with the operation of steam heated vacuum pans, batch cookers and crystallization to manufacture raw sugar during the harvest season by setting temperature and pressure gauges on cooking machines to produce sugar and performing related sugar boiling work as needed or assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Provide leadership in the absence of the shift supervisor and coordinate the work of other employees to maintain smooth operations and meet production goals.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Perform all operations of the assigned vacuum pans.• Coordinate the operation of the assigned vacuum pans under the Raw Sugar Production Supervisor’s instructions.• Control the development and growth of sugar crystals in the vacuum pans manually and/or by using instruments.• Discharge massecuite with uniform and proper size crystals.• Avoid false grains and/or conglomerates.• Achieve the correct purity and brix in the minimum time.• Operate computers that control the pans, including navigating through multiple screens.• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.• Performs other related duties as assigned.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Effective verbal and written communication skills.Must have intermediate verbal, written and computers skills.Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma, GED (or equivalent experience), and at least three (3) year of experience in sugar fabrication processes and procedures.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Regular attendance is required during your schedule shift.Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather.Must be able to work in all positions (overhead, kneeling, reaching, crawling & working in small workspaces) & be able to lift up to 50 pounds.FIRST-CLASS BENEFITS: We offer a suite of benefits, including but not limited to:Health, dental, visionShort-term and Long-term DisabilityCritical Illness, Accident, Hospital IndemnityEmployee assistance program – offers confidential counseling and support with mental, financial, physical, and emotional wellbeingPaid time off (vacation, sick, holidays, bereavement, jury duty)401(k) program with highly competitive matchTuition reimbursementCOMPANY VISION:SCGC’s vision is to deliver the greatest value to our member-growers and employees by being an industry leader in all we do.
