JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for performing complex tasks in setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to manufacture and repair industrial equipment and machinery. Work involves reading and interpreting blueprints and setting up and operating machine tools to produce high-quality parts.

Work is performed under minimal supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position relies on experience and exercises some independent judgement to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manufactures complex parts and components for industrial equipment, ensuring each piece meets precise specifications and quality standards
  • Reads and interprets blueprints to determine the dimensions and tolerances of industrial parts and components
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintenance on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns
  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, including lathes, mills, and CNC machines
  • Produces high-quality industrial parts and components to precise tolerances
  • Maintains and troubleshoots machine tools
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals
  • Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Follows organizational safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May train, coordinate, provide guidance to and review the work of lower-level staff to accomplish operational plans and results
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience as a machinist including, some previous lead-worker responsibility or demonstrated ability to lead the work of others;
  • OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical or vocational training in metal fabrication fundamentals or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of machining principles
  • Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to equipment operation
  • Skill in the use of applicable department and organization specific software; ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
  • Skill in using mathematics required for the work
  • Skill in the use of measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauge
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to set up and operate a variety of machine tools
  • Ability to produce high-quality industrial parts and components to precise tolerances
  • Ability to plan, assign, and guide the work of assigned staff
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior workers
  • Ability to follow public safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe manner
