We are seeking an experienced SUE Technician to join our team. This role supports both Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Surveying departments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with utility locating, mapping, field equipment, and post-processing data. This position involves both office and fieldwork and may require overnight travel.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety of crew, clients, and the public at all times
- Operate utility locating equipment for SUE designating
- Research and interpret utility records; apply findings to fieldwork
- Understand project goals, scopes of work, and client expectations
- Safely excavate and expose subsurface utilities according to project guidelines
- Operate and maintain Surveying and SUE field equipment
- Safely operate company vehicles
- Interpret subsurface utility information in the field and through post-processing
- Communicate field findings and analysis clearly and effectively
- Support both the Surveying and SUE departments (cross-training required)
- Respond to last-minute requests and assist field crews when needed
- Maintain a professional image and foster positive client relationships
- Perform overnight travel for out-of-town projects as needed
- Produce technical drawings and maps using AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, or similar software
- Assist with budget and schedule adherence for deliverables
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in subsurface utility locating (SUE)
- Working knowledge of SUE designating, utility locating equipment, and excavation standards
- Knowledge of survey data processing is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and comfortable working independently and in teams
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass background check and drug screening
