Job summary

JBPro seeks a SUE Technician III to lead complex utility investigations in North Florida. You will guide field crews, ensure safe, efficient field execution, and deliver high-quality information to project teams.

Expertise in electromagnetic methods, GPR, and vacuum excavation is essential. The role requires 5+ years of SUE or utility locating experience, a high school diploma, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years of progressive SUE or advanced utility locating experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of underground utility systems and plans.
  • Hands-on skill with electromagnetic, GPR, and vacuum excavation equipment.
  • Ability to prepare legible field notes, sketches, photos, and records.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to train others and work with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of ASCE 38 quality levels and documentation practices.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 10, MUTCD, or vacuum excavation preferred; ability to obtain after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supports complex multi-utility investigations using electromagnetic methods, GPR, sondes, sewer cameras, vacuum excavation, test-hole equipment, and related techniques.
  • Directs and participates in Quality Level B designation and Quality Level A work; supports records research and feature collection.
  • Interprets conflicting records and field evidence; troubleshoots locates and recommends further investigation.
  • Coordinates daily crew activities, conducts job briefings, monitors productivity and safety compliance.
  • Reviews field notes, photographs, measurements, and logs for accuracy before submittal.
  • Mentors Level I/II technicians in locating theory, safety, and customer communication.
  • Serves as field point of contact for clients/contractors; communicates schedule changes and scope impacts promptly.
  • Maintains and coordinates maintenance for vehicles, vacuum systems, and geophysical equipment.

Position Overview:

The SUE Technician IIIisresponsible forcomplex utility investigations, safe and efficient field execution, and the quality of information returned to JBPro's project teams. This roleassistsin selectingappropriate investigationmethods, performs field quality control, and serves asaprimaryfieldcontact on assigned projects.

What You'll Do:
  • Supportscomplex multi-utility investigations using electromagnetic methods, GPR, sondes, sewer cameras, vacuum excavation, test-hole equipment, and complementary investigative techniques.
  • Direct andparticipatein Quality Level B designation and Quality Level A physical exposure work; support records research and surveyed surface-feature collection needed for a complete investigation.
  • Interpret conflicting or incomplete records and field evidence; troubleshoot difficultlocates,identifyuncertainty, and recommendadditionalinvestigation or escalation.
  • Assistin coordinatingdaily crew activities, conductingjob briefings,monitoringproductivity, and verifyingcompliance with safety,traffic-control, and equipment procedures.
  • Review field notes, sketches, photographs, measurements, test-hole logs, electronic files, and markings for completeness and accuracy before submittal.
  • Mentor Level I and II technicians inlocatingtheory, safe excavation, equipment care, field judgment, documentation, and customer communication.
  • Occasionally servesas the field point of contact for clients, contractors, utility owners, survey crews, and JBPro project managers; communicate schedule changes, conflicts, hazards, and scope impacts promptly.
  • Protect, inspect, troubleshoot, and coordinate maintenance for assigned vehicles, vacuum systems, geophysical equipment, and safety gear.
  • Five or more years of progressive SUE or advanced private utilitylocatingexperience, includingdemonstratedresponsibility for complex investigations and field crew coordination; equivalent utility, survey, or construction experience may be considered when paired with advanced locatingproficiency.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of underground utility systems, utility records, engineering plans, and standard utility color codes.
  • Hands-onskillwith electromagnetic,GPR,and vacuum excavationequipmentisrequired.
  • Ability to prepare complete, legible field notes, sketches, photographs, measurements, and electronic records.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability totrain others, make safe stop-work decisions, and deliveraccuratework with limited supervision.
  • Strong applied knowledge of ASCE 38 quality levels, utility investigation limitations, field quality control, and documentation practices.
  • CDL, DOT medical card, OSHA 30,advancedMaintenance of Traffic/Temporary Traffic Control, First Aid/CPR,confined-space, competent-person, or vacuum-excavation qualifications are preferred as applicable to JBPro's equipment and contracts.
  • OSHA 10, Maintenance of Traffic/Temporary Traffic Control, First Aid/CPR, confined-space, competent-person, or vacuum-excavation training is preferred; ability to obtain assigned certifications after hire isrequired.
