Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. seeks experienced Field Technicians to support Underground Utilities, Land Surveying and Mapping in Pittsburgh. Travel and fieldwork are required to locate subsurface utilities, label features, and complete daily reports.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of field experience, familiarity with total stations, data collectors, and GPS, plus a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license. TN visa is possible only for eligible candidates.

Position Summary

JMT is currently looking for experienced Field Technicians to join the Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Pittsburgh. This position is similar to a utility locator.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations
• Operate equipment to locate & mark subsurface utilities
• Label topographic features from field codes
• Perform calculations
• Complete daily reports and field note sketches
• Assist with training SUE staff in methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
• Participate in project meetings
• Operate vacuum excavation truck to expose underground utilities
• Interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings
• Travel required

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
• Valid Driver's License Required
• Able to pass Background Check
• Skills in mathematics and coordinate geometry

• 5+ years' experience
• Familiarity with total stations, data collectors and GPS
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Team Attitude / Mindset

Preferred Experience

• Experience using Ground Penetrating Radar is preferred but not necessary
• Surveying experience preferred but not necessary

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 75+ lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Successful candidate must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Successful candidate must be able to work 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday (Minimum).

Travel & Night Shift Requirements

Some travel required. Some night shift work required.
