Job summary

JMT in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania seeks a SUE Party Chief to join the Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

This role requires leading field crews, operating vacuum excavation trucks, and travel as needed; expect field work about 90% outdoors, with collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, sub-consultants, and utility representatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading field crews and using multiple utility designation and locating equipment.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in utility designation and vacuum excavation methods.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Able to work 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday; travel required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise & lead a team of SUE technicians.
• Assigns and monitors work; provides input for evaluation of field staff.
• Conduct field investigations; operate equipment to locate and mark utilities.
• Label topographic features from field codes; perform calculations.
• Complete daily reports and field note sketches; train staff in procedures.
• Travel as required; participate in project meetings with PMs, engineers, and utility reps.

Position Summary:

JMT is currently looking for SUE Party Chiefs to join the Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Supervise & lead a team of SUE technicians
• Assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field SUE staff
• Conduct field investigations
• Operate equipment to locate & mark subsurface utilities
• Label topographic features from field codes
• Perform calculations
• Complete daily reports and field note sketches
• Instruct and train SUE staff in methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
• Participate in project meetings with Project Managers, Engineers, sub-consultants, and utility representatives.
• Operate vacuum excavation truck to expose underground utilities
• Interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings
• Provides time estimates for specific tasks
• Travel required

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
• Valid driver's license required
• Able to pass Background Check
• Ability to lead project assignments

• Must be able to fully comprehend and interpret roadway and utility construction plans, and utility record drawings
• Good organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
• Knowledge of Vacuum Excavation, Electromagnetic Pipe and Cable locator equipment/procedures
• Use of multiple types of utility designation equipment
• Able to bend, kneel, lift, and carry up to 75 lbs as needed
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Required Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the successful application of multiple types of utility designation and locating equipment with demonstrated ability to lead project assignments and supervise field crews.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing utility designation, vacuum excavation and other SUE methods.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to work 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday (Minimum)
• Ability to travel is required

Preferred Experience

• Experience using Ground Penetrating Radar is preferred but not necessary
• Surveying experience preferred but not necessary

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 90% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 - 75+ lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 10% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Some travel required. Some night shift work required.
