Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking an entry‑level SUE Technician to help locate underground utilities and mark results for field sketches. You will operate SUE field gear under the SUE Analyst, helping ensure accurate data and safe site practices.

You may travel daily, lift up to 50 pounds, and gain hands-on training with equipment like GPR and other tools, with growth opportunities in the firm.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to walk outdoors in various terrains and weather conditions.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and operate equipment as needed.
• Willingness to travel daily with occasional overnight stays.
• Work 50 hours during peak periods and unsupervised when required.
• Background checks and pre-employment drug screening are required.

Job description

OVERVIEW

SUE Technician is an entry level position working under direction of the SUE Analyst on projects related to locating underground utilities and designating them with paint and flags to produce accurate field sketches of results for use by client.

DURING YOUR WORK DAY, YOU WILL:

• Develop and utilize your learned skills by safe operation of SUE field equipment: ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer camera, probe rod, jackhammer, chop saw, pneumatic tampers, vacuum excavation equipment, and other geophysical means.
• Exercise extreme caution near or around any utility facility and follow all job site safety parameters.
• Assist with maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and work sites.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• High School/GED or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to walk outdoors for long periods of time through all kinds of terrain, including urban, suburban, and rural locations, and working under adverse conditions (heat, cold, hills, swamps, wildlife & insects, high traffic areas).
• Able to lift 50 pounds, carry, and operate equipment as needed on the project.
• Available to travel daily; occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Work 50 hours during busy periods.
• Work unsupervised when required.
• Background & motor vehicle checks, and pre-employment drug screening are conditions of employment.

• Current Commercial Driver's License is a plus.
