Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a SUE Technician I to support locating underground utilities and labeling results for accurate field sketches. You will work under the SUE Analyst on projects to designate utilities with paint and flags.

The role emphasizes safe operation of field gear, travel readiness, and contributing to a collaborative team focused on community infrastructure projects. Training and growth opportunities are provided within a respected engineering firm.

Qualifications

• High School/GED or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to walk outdoors for long periods in varied terrain and conditions.
• Lift 50 pounds and operate field equipment.
• Willingness to travel daily; some overnight travel may be required.
• Work 50 hours during busy periods; perform tasks unsupervised when required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Overview

SUE Technician I is an entry level position working under direction of the SUE Analyst on projects related to locating underground utilities and designating them with paint and flags to produce accurate field sketches of results for use by client.

Daily Responsibilities

• Develop and utilize learned skills by safe operation of SUE field equipment: ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer camera, probe rod, jackhammer, chop saw, pneumatic tampers, vacuum excavation equipment, and other geophysical means.
• Exercise extreme caution near or around any utility facility and follow all job site safety parameters.
• Assist with maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and work sites.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School/GED or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to walk outdoors for long periods of time through all kinds of terrain, including urban, suburban, and rural locations, and work under adverse conditions (heat, cold, hills, swamps, wildlife & insects, high traffic areas).
• Able to lift 50 pounds, carry, and operate equipment as needed on the project.
• Available to travel daily; occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Work 50 hours during busy periods.
• Work unsupervised when required.
• Background & motor vehicle checks, and pre-employment drug screening are conditions of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialized training from a vo-tech school or Rod person/Instrument person experience a plus.
• Current Commercial Driver's License is a plus.
• Experience is welcomed, but willing to train.
• Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Motivated to learn and develop your career path.
