Qualifications

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician to join its team in Denver, Colorado. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and utility owners to help identify utility conflicts using technologies such as electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey, and vacuum excavation.

Join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team, a branch of engineering that mitigates risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction. We collaborate with engineers and utility owners to identify utility conflicts using advanced technologies. Our work requires high precision and technical skill.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret utility records, as-built/survey drawings, and highway design to identify utility information such as utility type, owner, reported size, and location.
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Follow Health and Safety protocols and SOPs.
  • Drive designated vehicles, including vacuum excavation trucks, when needed.
  • Complete field books legibly and record information for test holes.
  • Assist with marking utilities using paint, pin flags, whiskers, lath, or stakes.
  • Under supervision, designate basic utilities like gas, water, and low complexity telecommunications.
  • Maintain or assist in maintaining equipment and vehicles.
  • Use air and water lances to expose underground utilities properly.
  • Complete daily/monthly vehicle logs and assist with field sketches.
  • Participate in random drug screenings and perform physical tasks, including moving equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel occasionally, sometimes for extended periods, via train or airplane.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in SUE, utility designating, or test holes.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean MVR, OSHA 10-hour, CPR, DOT Driver's Qualification, and ability to pass DOT and Fit For Duty physicals.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and obtain a TWIC card.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.

Compensation: $20.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
