Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) seeks a Subsurface Utility Engineering Field Technician in Baltimore, MD. This full-time role supports our Survey and Utility Designation team, performing field investigations, utility designations, and data sketching to support engineering design.

Responsibilities include interpreting plans, GIS data, operating locating equipment, and coordinating with survey crews.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or state equivalency required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant field experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

We are currently seeking an experienced Subsurface Utility Engineering Field Technician to join our Survey and Utility Designation team in our Baltimore, MD location.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret Utility Plans, As-Builts and GIS Data
• Perform Field Investigations for evidence of Existing Utilities
• Operate Electromagnetic Locating Equipment
• Perform Utility Designation for Engineering Design
• Sketch approximate Designated Utility alignments and related data
• Coordinate with Survey Field Crews for Mapping of Designation Marks

Requirements:

• High school diploma or state equivalency certificate required
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
• Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle multiple assignments

Preferred Requirements:

• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree
• LSIT certification
• Experience marking utilities for MDOT SHA, MTA and/or MPA

Physical Requirements (Essential Functions):

This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:

• Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
• Moving around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles
• Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
• Remaining in a stationary position—either standing or sitting for extended periods of time
• Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or carting objects up to 50 lbs. distances up to a 1/2 mile.
• Driving to and from project sites, which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 100 miles round trip.
• Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including, but not limited to those described in this document.

The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements. Work may also be performed in noisy conditions or confined/enclosed spaces.

The expected compensation range for this position is $40,000.00 - $85,000 per year. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
