Description: The Success Center Counselor has the dual responsibility of overseeing the Middle School Success Center for academic "retakes and redos" of standards-based assessments, as well as advising students returning from out of school suspensions.

Qualifications

  • Licensure:
  • Required - State of Illinois Professional Educator License with an Endorsement in Elementary Education (Self Contained General Education) K-9 Teaching License
  • Preferred - State of Illinois Professional Educator License with an Endorsement in Social Worker
  • Education:
  • Required - Bachelor's Degree and minimum of three (3) courses in student counseling, school social work, or related degrees.
  • Preferred - Master's Degree in Social Work or Master's degree is School Counseling
  • Experience:
  • Required - Five (5) years of successful middle school experience, including experience with SEL, Restorative Practices, and current best practice in middle school student support.
  • Preferred - Five (5) years of successful middle school experience, including experience with SEL, Restorative Practices, and current best practice in middle school student support. Plus, Five (5) years of successful experience in school social work or school counseling. Proficient in Spanish (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the daily operation of the Success Center at Woodland Middle School.
  • Develops and maintains a system to facilitate "retakes and redos" of student assessments.
  • Ensures the testing environment remains conducive to assessment administration.
  • Maintains security and confidential of all assessment materials prior to and after their implementation.
  • Reports any violations of the security and confidentiality of assessments for disciplinary action to appropriate individual.
  • Administers assessments requiring special accommodations or times; ensures proper completion of documents, confirms student identification, answers instructional questions, distributes and times test.
  • Administers tests to abled students ensuring appropriate accommodations for student's needs.
  • Processes necessary paperwork upon assessment completion in order to ensure documentation of students' scores; maintains various records, logs and testing files.
  • Collaboratively work with teams and teachers to support the retake process.
  • Provides school counseling for students coming back to the learning environment.
  • Provides individual counseling to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career and family concerns.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  • Supports students in transitioning back to school activities following out of school suspensions.
  • Maintains professional develop on best practices to support student success at school.
  • Supports students, staff, and administration in the development of re-entry plans for students returning to the classroom setting after being removed for disciplinary reasons.

Other Performance Responsibilities

  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Middle School Principal, Associate Superintendent of Teaching and Learning with Equity, and Superintendent

  • Planning and Preparation - Responsible for developing, maintaining, and ensuring the efficient operation of a retake and redo assessment system. Obtains regular feedback and makes modifications to the Success Center to meet the needs of the students and staff.
  • Environment - Responsible for creating an environment of respect and rapport, establishes a culture for learning, manages center procedures, manages student's behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space.

Technical: Demonstrate skills in writing, editing and public speaking. Experience with social media and emerging technologies. Competent in databases, spreadsheets, Google Suite and or Microsoft Office platforms, and educational applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordination performance.

Physical Effort: Work requires handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.

Working Conditions: Some exposure to definitely disagreeable elements may exist, i.e., temperature changes, use of steps/stairs, walking long distances throughout the building, etc. Must be able to travel within and outside the district. Must be available for evenings and non-work days, if needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 180 days; Monday - Friday

SALARY RANGE: BA / Step 1: $42,199 - MA+45 Step 8: $59,249 (Based on experience and education as defind in the Collective Bargaining Agreement)

EVALUATION: Conducted Annually
