Job description

Note: Onboarding for this Sub Classification has halted until Fall of 2025

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, performs duties related to shipping, receiving, storing, and issuing goods including food, supplies, equipment, textbooks, and other materials. Drives a vehicle along assigned routes to pick up and deliver items. Prepares and maintains related records and reports. May participate in food service distribution functions as directed.

As a substitute employee, hours are not guaranteed (can work as little or as much as desired); position is not benefits eligible.

All employment offers are contingent on pre-employment clearances for: Department of Justice (CA) Fingerprints; FBI Fingerprints; Tuberculosis (TB) and physical. Note: The District pays for pre-employment clearances for substitute employees.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and organize equipment and supplies at delivery sites; ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Assist in conducting inventories; verify stock and identify losses.
  • Communicate with personnel and outside agencies regarding deliveries.
  • Drive to various locations to deliver goods; maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform safety checks.
  • Process requisitions; pull, pack, and ship items; monitor stock levels; verify orders; assist with ordering supplies.
  • Follow warehouse procedures and maintain security and cleanliness.
  • Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Perform duties related to shipping, loading, receiving, storing, and issuing goods, including food and equipment.
  • Maintain records and reports related to activities and purchase orders.
  • Store received items appropriately; rotate inventory and ensure food shipments are not spoiled.
  • Transport and secure deposit bags from district sites to warehouse.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications include high school graduation or equivalent and experience in warehouse or delivery roles. Forklift experience is desirable.

    Licenses and Requirements:

    • Valid California Class C Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
    • Forklift certification (to be obtained within 12 months).
    • Some positions may require a Food Handler Certificate or willingness to obtain one.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, warehouse procedures, and equipment operation.
    • Traffic laws, safe driving, and sanitation practices.
    • Record-keeping, report preparation, and inventory management.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proper lifting techniques and safety regulations.
    • Basic math skills.

    Abilities:

    • Participate in food service distribution.
    • Drive and operate warehouse and delivery equipment.
    • Maintain inventory and process orders.
    • Inspect and receive deliveries.
    • Meet schedules and maintain records.
    • Follow instructions and ensure safety and sanitation compliance.
