Description

Provide classroom coverage as assigned when regular teachers or staff members are absent. This is an as-needed substitute position, and substitutes will use Frontline to accept available assignments at any of our five campuses. Assignments may include a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, Special Education Paraprofessional, and specials teacher positions. We are looking for dependable and flexible substitutes who are willing to support students and staff wherever needed. Candidates should be comfortable working with a wide range of developmental age groups, including Kindergarten through Grade 12, and should have a desire to make a difference in students’ lives as part of a caring school community.

Qualifications
  • Valid Indiana Teaching License or Substitute Permit required
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom coverage when a teacher or staff member is absent.
  • Follow lesson plans, schedules, and instructions left by the regular teacher or building administrator.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Support student learning by providing directions, answering basic questions, and keeping students engaged in assigned work.
  • Supervise students during class, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned times as needed.
  • Follow school procedures for attendance, behavior expectations, emergencies, and student supervision.
  • Communicate concerns, incidents, or important information to the building administrator or appropriate staff member.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school-related matters.
  • Be flexible and willing to support different classrooms, grade levels, and roles based on building needs.
  • Represent the school in a professional, dependable, and positive manner.
  • Ability to teach day to day assignments or long-term positions such as maternity leave or long-term illness.
  • Uses initiative to solve problems when they arise and is willing to make decisions based on the best interest of students.
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment development preferred.
  • A positive attitude and desire to be part of a close community and able to contribute in positive ways to the culture of the school.
  • Ability to support a positive classroom environment that encourages collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, trust, and a sense of community.
  • Solid understanding of school organization, programs and students.
  • Ability to quickly adjust to different specials (Art, PE, Music, Technology) and grade levels. Can take over classes with little advance notice. Improvises lessons in emergency situations where the teacher is unable to provide lesson plans.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administration.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing.
  • Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials.
  • Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility.
  • Must demonstrate foundational professionalism, including consistent attendance, punctuality, adherence to school policies and procedures, and strong employability skills. These are considered essential, non-negotiable expectations of the role.
