Newton County Schools in Covington, Georgia is seeking Substitute Teachers for in-person classroom support. This on-call role involves delivering face-to-face instruction, following lesson plans, and maintaining a productive, safe learning environment throughout the school day.

Applicants must hold GA PSC teacher certification or be eligible, or possess Griffin RESA substitute training certification. The district provides ongoing pool-based opportunities for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualificações

• Hold a Substitute Teacher certificate of completion from the Griffin RESA Substitute Training Workshop.

Responsabilidades

• Reports in person to the school building to provide face-to-face instruction to students.
• Responsive to changing school and district instructional needs.
• Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans left by the classroom teacher or provided by the school.
• Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned by following the directions provided.
• Maintains a professional appearance and follows the guidelines outlined in the substitute handbook.
• Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by the building principal.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains reasonable rules of conduct that encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
• Communicates effectively with parents as needed.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
• Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch, and throughout the school by maintaining order and discipline.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Substitute Teaching

SUBSTITUTESprovide face-to-face instruction with students in school buildings and ensure continuity of appropriate learning during the absence of the teacher. Substitute Teachers perform related duties in lieu of the absent teacher, or in a class that does not have an assigned teacher. This position is on-call and is assigned based on operational needs.

Newton County Schools (NCS) Substitute Teacher Application Process for the 2026-2027 School Year

Application Period: August through March

To join the pool of qualified substitute teachers, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• Hold a current teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GA PSC).
• Be eligible for a GA PSC teaching certificate.
• Hold a Substitute Teacher certificate of completion from the Griffin RESA Substitute Training Workshop.

**Certified teachers that accept a long-term teaching assignment can earn $150
