Job description

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking dedicated educators to serve as substitute teachers during the 2026‑27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre‑K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education. Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview

Substitute teachers play an important role in supporting the continuity of learning and the daily life of the school. We are seeking educators who enjoy working with children and adolescents and who can establish orderly, respectful, and engaging classroom environments while carrying forward the instructional plans and classroom expectations provided by the regular teacher.

Successful substitute teachers demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and sound judgment in working with students across a variety of classroom settings. They foster a positive learning environment, communicate effectively with students and school personnel, and help maintain the routines and culture that support student learning. Long‑term substitute assignments may include additional instructional and planning responsibilities.

In keeping with the school’s mission, substitute teachers integrate Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into their interactions with students while supporting the educational vision and classroom culture of The Covenant School.
