Overview

Substitute Teacher for Juvenile Correctional Facility — Onsite position at LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility. Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. Hourly Pay: $18.50/hour on a 1099 basis.

Job Description

Serves as a Teaching Assistant in the Education Department in a Juvenile Correctional Facility. The incumbent supervises students in the classroom in the absence of the classroom teacher with responsibilities: Attendance Taking, Behavior Monitoring, Assignment Monitoring, and Daily Record Monitoring. Provides students with guidance in completing assignments left by the classroom teacher and to support classroom instruction as needed. Manages the classroom, participates in faculty and professional meetings, reports directly to the School Principal, and performs duties with minimal supervision.

Duties

• Following policy in critical incidents preventing injury, escape, or property damage.
• Supervises the daily work of students and evaluates the achievement of individual student knowledge.
• Operates all job-related equipment.
• Collaborates with other departments to enhance the learning environment.
• Provides written reports to/participates in multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Attends and completes all required training and certifications.
• Develops and reviews clear, accurate, and concise reports in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Promotes positive working relationships with students, staff, contractual personnel, interns and volunteers, and applicable community agencies.
• Maintains a positive image to the public in related responsibilities.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
