Substitute Teacher – Alleghany High School
Starting Date: Immediately
Location: Alleghany County Schools, Sparta, North Carolina
Salary: $113 - $122 per Day
Responsibilities
- Conduct assigned classes at scheduled times.
- Implement lesson plans while maintaining academic integrity and engaging students.
- Enforce regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
- Ensure adequate supervision to guarantee health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Interact professionally with students and parents.
- Collaborate with school personnel and comply with Alleghany County School Board of Education policies.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to their proper places.
- Collect and organize students’ papers in the teacher’s desk or designated area.
- Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
- Perform non‑instructional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Perform other related work as required.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- Completion of effective substitute training or qualification as a classroom teacher.

- Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and child‑care equipment.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects with negligible force frequently or constantly.
- Ability to compare and judge observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
- Ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions and assignments.
- Ability to prepare and ready correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, and simple instructional materials using prescribed formats.
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret complex technical instructions.
- Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in technical and professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, and adaptability under stressful or emergency situations.
