BASIS Washington DC is seeking qualified candidates to join our Substitute Teacher Pool. Substitute Teachers step in when teachers are absent to maintain continuity of instruction and ensure students continue to receive a high-quality learning experience.

Substitute Teachers support students in grades 5 through 12 by facilitating teacher-provided lesson plans, maintaining established classroom routines and expectations, and creating a positive and productive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate provided lesson plans.
  • Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students.
  • Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect in all students.
  • Support the execution of non-instructional functions, such as "Early Bird", "Late Bird", and lunch and study hall.
  • Arrive on time and remain available for the full duration of accepted substitute assignments.
  • Supervise individual students and/or groups of students.

We are building a pool of qualified, reliable substitute teachers who are interested in providing classroom coverage on an as-needed basis. Substitute Teachers step in when teachers are absent to help maintain continuity of instruction and ensure students continue to receive a high-quality learning experience.

Substitute Teachers support students in grades 5 through 12 by facilitating teacher-provided lesson plans, maintaining established classroom routines and expectations, and creating a positive and productive learning environment. Depending on the needs of the day, substitutes may provide coverage across a variety of subjects and grade levels.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter or education
  • 2+ years teaching/education experience
