Reports To: CONTRACTED TEACHER/PRINCIPAL

Qualifications / Terms of Employment
  • Valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate/Statement of Eligibility or Emergency Substitute Certificate (requires at least 64 college hours)
  • Criminal records check required by state & federal law
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • USED ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS.
Preferred
  • Hold teaching certification or a Statement of Eligibility
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (in a field outside of education), or in some cases,
  • Be a Teacher in training.
Teachers in Training Criteria
  • Be enrolled in an accredited Teacher Education program and have completed a minimum of 64 credit hours within that program, with a minimum GPA of 2.5, or
  • Be enrolled in a Master’s level Teacher Education Program, and have completed twelve semester hours toward that degree.
Knowledge Of
  • Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e‑mail, and websites
  • Documentation and record‑keeping techniques
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
Job Summary

Provide continuation of instruction and management of students in absence of the regular teacher in a variety of content areas and grade levels.

Expectations
  • Instructional substitutes must work a minimum of 10 school days per school year.
  • Instructional substitutes not meeting the minimum requirement will be removed from the substitute list.
  • Instructional substitutes excluded by 6 or more schools district‑wide due to performance or other issues will be removed from the substitute list.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide effective continuation of instruction based on lesson plans and/or instructions provided by the regular teacher
  • Effectively communicate assignments, instructions, and assistance to students.
  • Follow all safety and emergency procedures established by the district and/or school.
  • Take attendance
  • Supervise students using proper classroom management techniques
  • Provide detailed notes and feedback to the regular teacher
  • Must use sound judgement and reasoning to adapt as necessary in the absence of the regular teacher and seek guidance from an administrator when appropriate
  • Complete grading of assignments when appropriate or as requested by the regular teacher
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the classroom
  • Protect confidential information of students and fellow staff members.
  • Assure compliance with federal, state and district policy, administrative procedures and all other procedures/policies applicable to assignment.
  • Prioritize, plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact and patience.
  • Follow proper reporting procedures for all matters, including but not limited to behavioral issues, bullying, and suspected child abuse or neglect.

If approved as a substitute teacher, you will be required to complete all state and Board mandated trainings.
