Job summary

Wilson County Schools Human Resources is seeking a Substitute Teacher in Wilson, North Carolina to provide classroom continuity in a Teacher’s absence. The role reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal and offers daily pay of $140 for certified and $100 for non-certified substitutes.

Responsibilities include following district guidelines, preparing lessons, coordinating with staff, and maintaining a productive classroom environment during the Teacher’s absence.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of several subject areas.

Responsibilities

• Follow district guidelines, regulations and best practices to ensure a safe, respectful, and age appropriate environment that promotes learning.
• Follow the established schedule, attendance procedures, and appropriate lesson plans.
• Prepare classroom for class activities and ensure materials, supplies and equipment are ready at the start of the lesson.
• Consult with staff to seek information regarding attendance procedures, lesson plans, daily schedule, materials and equipment location, and daily duties.
• Communicate clear expectations to students for all learning activities.
• Maintain student time-on-task and assist in using learning materials and equipment.
• Use relevant technology to support instruction where possible.
• Observe and provide feedback to students on performance according to Teacher’s directions.
• Manage student behavior by following rules and procedures and maintain discipline as per school policy.
• Attend to non- teaching duties (lunch/recess/hall duty) as assigned.
• Follow dismissal procedures and ensure materials and equipment are orderly.
• Provide written progress reports for the Teacher when they return.

Essential Job Functions:

• Follow district guidelines, regulations and best practices to ensure a safe, respectful, and age appropriate environment that promotes learning
• Follow the established schedule, attendance procedures, and appropriate lesson plans
• Prepare classroom for class activities __ have materials, supplies and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity
• Consult with staff members, including neighboring Teachers, to seek information or clarification regarding attendance procedures, lesson plans, daily schedule, materials and equipment location, and daily duties
• Communicate clear expectations to students for all learning activities
• Maintain a high level of student time‑on‑task
• Assist and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
• Where possible, use relevant technology to support instruction
• Observe and provide feedback to students on their performance according to Teacher’s directions
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by following and enforcing rules and procedures
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
• Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline issues to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
• Attend to all non‑teaching duties as assigned (i.e. lunch duty, recess duty, hall duty, etc.)
• Follow all dismissal procedures, ensuring that all materials and equipment are in orderly condition
• Communicate necessary information regarding the progress and issues of the day in a written report for the Teacher when they return
• Follow policies, procedures, standards and rules in accordance with federal and state laws, which includes, but is not limited to, leading students in safety and evacuation drills
• Performs any other duties or tasks as assigned by the supervisor
