General Position Description

In this critical role, the Substitute Teacher will act as temporary teacher when the regular lead teacher is off campus. Substitute Teachers are responsible for caring for students 7:45 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, if a full-time teacher is unable to be on campus.

Reports to: Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher
• Following procedures and achieving lesson goals
• Assigning and explaining work
• Overseeing students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and outdoors
• Connecting with students in a developmentally appropriate manner
• Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times
• Managing student and classroom transitions
• Taking attendance and documenting daily notes
• Ensuring the classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly
• Overseeing normal classroom rhythms and activities
• Compiling a report for the teacher for when they return
• Checking out with the supervisor at the end of the day

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• This position requires significant flexibility and the capacity to work in a variety of settings: office, classroom, community meeting spaces, outdoors, etc. It may require the ability to sit, stand, walk up and down up to three flights of stairs and through the campus, for the entirety of the school day and to occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.
• Be able to pass all criminal record checks, background checks, and child abuse clearances
