Job Requirements

Position Summary

Provides direct instruction to students at the direction of their regular teacher and maintains an environment conducive to learning.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
  • Execute daily lessons covering identified course descriptions, curriculum standards, and instructional objectives as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Maintain classroom control/discipline in accordance with school philosophy and procedures.
  • Report in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of the teaching day.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy.
  • Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Consult with the principal or other certified staff before initiating any teaching or other procedure not specified by the absent teacher.

Building principals in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy and the district’s model of evaluation.

Terms of Employment

The beginning date of employment will be considered the first day of the month following the first time subbing in the district. Compensation is $100 per full day. Partial days will be pro-rated accordingly. Long‑term substitutes (defined as those who teach for 10 or more consecutive days for the same teacher) will be compensated $115/day beginning on the 11th day. Benefits and leave time as defined in Board Policy. Must be a U.S. citizen and have passed all background checks conducted by the District. Substitute teachers who no longer wish to sub for the district must relay that in writing. Otherwise, employment with the district is considered terminated after 3 consecutive refusals to sub.

Working Environment

Work is typically performed in and around a student learning environment and as such may be exposed to childhood diseases. May be required to balance and crouch, crawl, bend, or kneel. May be required to stand for prolonged periods. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions may occur. Workplace is usually moderately quiet but can be noisy at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job.
