Job summary

OBERLIN CITY SCHOOLS is seeking dedicated substitute teachers to join our pool for PreK–12 students. Compensation is $135 per day or $67.50 per half-day, with flexible hours to cover teacher absences.

Candidates must pass BCI & FBI background checks, hold an Ohio teaching or substitute license, and have at least two years in a similar role. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to support learning and classroom management.

Qualifications

• Must pass BCI & FBI Background check.
• Ohio Dept of Education teaching or substitute teaching license.
• A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
• Following procedures and achieving lesson goals.
• Assigning and explaining homework.
• Overseeing students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria.
• Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times.
• Taking attendance and documenting daily notes.
• Ensuring the classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly.
• Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
• Compiling a report for the teacher for when they return.

Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include taking attendance, explaining/assigning homework, maintaining classroom cleanliness and compiling reports.

To excel in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience. Our ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
