Job Summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and maintaining continuity of learning during an extended teacher absence. The substitute assumes the responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher, including lesson planning (as appropriate), instruction, classroom management, assessment, and communication with school staff. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators, the Long-Term Substitute Teacher supports the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students while fostering a positive learning environment consistent with the mission and values of Catholic education.

Job Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Learning
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher and/or develop lesson plans as needed during the assignment.
  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that supports student learning and achievement.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of assignments and grades as directed.
  • Provide meaningful feedback to students to support their academic growth.
Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement classroom routines and behavior expectations consistent with school policies.
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ensure appropriate student supervision throughout the school day and during assigned duties.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate professionally with teachers, instructional specialists, support staff, and administrators.
  • Communicate student progress, concerns, and classroom needs with school administration as appropriate.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities when requested.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and other required classroom records.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; teaching certification preferred or as required by state and diocesan guidelines.
  • Prior teaching, long-term substitute teaching, or educational experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage classrooms across multiple grade levels (K–8, as assigned).
  • Strong instructional, classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
