Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington seeks a Substitute Teacher to provide on-call classroom support in Everett, WA, for ECEAP/licensed childcare settings. You will assist staff, supervise children, ensure safety, and help with activities and transitions.

Required qualifications include an associate or higher degree with ECE credits (preferred) and WA teaching certificate for ECE (Pre-K–3) or ECE Special Education (preferred). On-site position with benefits available.

Qualifications

• Associate or higher degree with 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education preferred.
• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education preferred.
• STARS training certificates, first aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS and Blood-Borne Pathogens training, Hepatitis B vaccination, TB test results, and Food Handler’s card may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support as assigned to ensure continuity of care and learning when regular staff are absent.
• Supervise and engage children to promote learning, safety, and developmental needs.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, safe classroom environment and routine tasks.
• Observe and communicate concerns or observations to the Site Program Manager.
• Adapt to different classrooms and teaching teams while providing high-quality support.

Education

The substitute will receive instruction and guidance from the site manager. Other on-site staff may provide directions as needed or desired. Although every effort will be made in providing substitutes with as much advance notice as possible, there will be times when our programs may need to call upon the services at the last minute.Principal Activities:Provide classroom support as assigned to ensure continuity of care and learning when regular teaching staff are absent.Supervise and actively engage with children to promote learning, ensure their safety, maintain required adult-to-child ratios, and respond to individual developmental and behavioral needs.Facilitate age-appropriate small group activities that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.Model professional practices that align with ECEAP Performance Standards, Washington State licensing requirements, and agency policies and procedures.Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment by completing routine housekeeping and classroom preparation tasks.Observe children's behavior and development and communicate concerns or significant observations to the Site Program Manager.Adapt to different classrooms, teaching teams, and daily routines while providing consistent, high-quality support to staff and children.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support program operations and ensure quality services for children and families.Effect on End Results:Provides consistent, high-quality classroom support that ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children when regular staff are unavailable.
