Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Pass background checks and health/safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with young children in educational settings preferred.
  • Availability for classroom coverage as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Head Start curriculum lesson plans.
  • Create engaging, structured classroom environment.
  • Assist children with meals, hygiene, and routines.
  • Use positive behavior-management techniques.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, assistants, and family support staff.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians.
  • Support inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Maintain attendance records and complete basic reports.
  • Prepare materials for classroom lessons and activities.
  • Follow Head Start regulations, state licensing requirements, emergency procedures, and FCR policies.

Families & Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR) is seeking dependable, caring, and flexible Substitute Teachers to support our Head Start classrooms. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with young children and want to make a meaningful difference while gaining experience in early childhood education.

What You’ll Do
  • Implement lesson plans and activities based on the Head Start curriculum
  • Create an engaging and structured classroom environment
  • Assist children with meals, hygiene, playtime, and other daily routines
  • Use positive behavior-management techniques to support social-emotional development
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free classroom
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, assistants, and family support staff
  • Communicate appropriately with parents and guardians
  • Support an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment
  • Maintain attendance records and complete basic reports as needed
  • Prepare materials for classroom lessons and activities
  • Follow Head Start regulations, state licensing requirements, emergency procedures, and FCR policies
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CDA, degree, certification, or early childhood education credentials preferred
  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification—or willingness to obtain
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments
  • Understanding of early childhood education principles
  • Must pass all required background checks and meet health and safety requirements
  • Must be available to work as needed based on classroom coverage needs
Summary
  • High School Diploma or GED: $125 per day
  • Degree, Certification, or License: $135 per day
