Job summary

USD 207 Fort Leavenworth School District in Kansas seeks a Substitute School Nurse for the 2026/27 school year to support student health and well-being, minimizing illness-related absences and collaborating closely with district staff.

The nurse will review health records, plan screenings, provide first aid, and serve as a health resource for staff and students, while maintaining student confidentiality and state requirements.

Qualifications

• Current Kansas Nurses License (RN)
• Public school experience preferred
• Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
• Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after an employment offer is made).

Responsibilities

• Identify and monitor students with health problems and collaborate with staff.
• Review students’ health records with district and building personnel as needed.
• Plan for and assist in the screening and re-screening of students.
• Interpret significant health findings and communicate them appropriately.
• Serve as a resource to health room assistants and other school staff.
• Assess students’ health status and coordinate treatment and rehabilitation with families and teachers.
• Conduct health-related screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and routine weight/measurements, referring when necessary.
• Provide first aid for illness and injury.
• Act as a health education resource for students and staff.
• Promote positive school-community health relationships.
• Assist in identifying health needs or disabilities and accommodations.
• Support administration in maintaining a healthy school environment.
• Notify parents of illnesses/injuries and actions taken.
