Job summary

Atlantic County Vocational School District seeks a Student Support Services/Substitute School Nurse to promote health and safety at Atlantic County Institute of Technology. You will provide health services to students, faculty and staff, and assist in teaching sound health practices.

Responsibilities include arriving on time, supervising students, delivering emergency care, and coordination with the Principal and other nurses.

Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey School Nurse Substitute Certificate.
• RN license required and school health nursing expertise.
• Ability to manage emergencies in school settings.
• Knowledge of child growth, health issues and wellness education.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Position Purpose

• To promote health and safety in the school environment and provide health services to students, faculty and staff; to assist with the teaching of sound health practices

Essential Functions

• Reports to the office upon arrival at school
• Checks for messages or materials requiring immediate attention
• Requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary
• Arrives in the Nurse's Oficeon schedule to greet students and remains in the assigned area classroom so that students are effectively supervised
• Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school nurse's ofice
• Supports the other school nurses.
• Provides emergency care in case of sudden illness and administers first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures
• Notifies Principal or his/her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
• Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned

Equipment

• Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Qualifications Profile

• Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures
• Knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health issues and wellness education
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge of community health and social services resources and ability to communicate effectively with nonschool health professionals and social service agencies
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Education

Experience

• Successful prior substitute nursingexperience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
