Job summary

Saint Edward’s School in Florida is seeking a compassionate substitute School Nurse (RN or LPN) to provide as-needed coverage for our health clinic serving PK3–12 students. This role offers flexible scheduling within a supportive independent-school setting.

Primary duties include providing first aid, assessing illnesses, administering medications with proper authorization, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Florida RN or LPN license.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Ability and legal authorization to administer medications to students, including Schedule II medications.
• Experience providing nursing care to children or adolescents preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and basic nursing care to students, faculty, and staff.
• Assess illnesses and injuries and determine appropriate level of care.
• Administer prescribed medications as authorized by physician and parent.
• Document clinic visits, treatments, and medication administration accurately.
• Contact parents/guardians about significant health concerns.
• Support emergency response procedures as needed.
• Maintain a clean, confidential clinic environment.
• Report contagious diseases as required by guidelines.

Saint Edward’s School is seeking compassionate, dependable nurses to provide as-needed coverage for our full-time School Nurse. This is an excellent opportunity for an RN or LPN who enjoys working with children and wants a flexible schedule in a welcoming, supportive independent-school environment.Serving approximately 630 students in PK3 through Grade 12, our health clinic plays an important role in helping students feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn. Substitute nurses may be contacted for planned or occasional coverage based on school needs and individual availability. This is an as-needed substitute position and does not guarantee a specific number of hours or days. Candidates may indicate their general availability during the application process.Basic DutiesProvide first aid and basic nursing care to students, faculty, and staff.Assess illnesses and injuries and determine the appropriate level of care.Administer prescribed medications, including Schedule II medications, in accordance with physician and parent authorization, school procedures, and applicable regulations.Document clinic visits, treatments, and medication administration accurately.Contact parents or guardians regarding significant health concerns, injuries, or student needs.Secure assistance from parents, physicians, emergency personnel, or school administrators when appropriate.Follow existing student health plans and respond appropriately to allergies, chronic conditions, and other identified medical needs.Maintain a clean, safe, confidential, and well-organized clinic environment.Works as a team member to help students obtain optimal, physical, emotional, and social well-being necessary for learning.Report students with unique reportable contagious diseases to the school nurse and Head of School in accordance with established guidelines.Maintains clear and open communication with the school nurse, as needed, with telephone communications.Support the School’s emergency response procedures as needed.RequirementsCurrent, unrestricted Florida RN or LPN license.Current CPR/AED certification.Ability and legal authorization to administer medications to students, including Schedule II medications.Experience providing nursing care to children or adolescents preferred.Sound clinical judgment and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately in urgent situations.Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.Commitment to protecting student privacy and maintaining confidentiality.Ability to work collaboratively and interact professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff.Successful completion of all required background screening and school onboarding requirements.
