Job summary

Providence Country Day School seeks a Substitute School Nurse to provide coverage for the School Health Office on an as needed basis.

The Substitute School Nurse will promote the health, safety, and well‑being of students from Pre‑K through Grade 12 by providing nursing care, responding to medical concerns and emergencies, administering medications, and supporting students with acute and chronic health conditions.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed RN in Rhode Island in good standing.
• Pediatric or school nursing experience preferred.
• CPR/AED certification current.
• Knowledge of medication administration and emergency management.
• Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and care for ill or injured students.
• Respond to medical emergencies per school protocols.
• Administer medications per provider orders and policies.
• Monitor students with chronic conditions and follow health plans.
• Maintain confidential documentation of visits, treatments, and incidents.
• Keep Health Office organized, stocked, and safe.
• Communicate with families and school staff about health concerns.
• Perform other nursing duties as needed.

Providence Country Day School seeks a Substitute School Nurse to provide coverage for the School Health Office on an as needed basis. The Substitute School Nurse will promote the health, safety, and well‑being of students from Pre‑K through Grade 12 by providing nursing care, responding to medical concerns and emergencies, administering medications, and supporting students with acute and chronic health conditions.

The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in a school environment with students of varying ages and medical needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and appropriate care for students experiencing illness, injury, or other health concerns during the school day.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies in accordance with school protocols.
• Administer medications in accordance with provider orders, parent/guardian authorization, and school policies.
• Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions, including diabetes, seizure disorders, asthma, and allergies.
• Follow individualized healthcare plans, emergency action plans, and established nursing protocols.
• Communicate with parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and school administrators regarding student health concerns, as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of student visits, treatments, medications, and incidents.
• Maintain the organization, safety, and cleanliness of the Health Office and ensure appropriate supplies are available.
• Perform other school nursing duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island, in good standing.
• Previous pediatric, school nursing, emergency, or community health experience preferred.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Knowledge of medication administration, emergency response, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.
• Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and respond calmly in emergency situations.
