Job Description
William Penn Charter School is an all‑gender, Quaker, independent day school serving pre‑K to 12. The Health Office is key to student support, promoting health and wellness. As a Substitute School Nurse, you will provide nursing coverage as needed during the school day, including episodic care, emergency response, health promotion, and prevention education.
Essential Functions
- Support and implement nursing policies and procedures.
- Apply federal and state laws and regulations related to school nursing.
- Adhere to confidentiality and privacy laws (HIPAA/FERPA).
- Maintain relationships and communicate with school administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain electronic records to comply with policies and applicable laws.
- Administer nursing care, basic first aid, and emergency response.
- Assess and manage acute and chronic illness and injury.
- Coordinate health‑care services between students and families.
- Complete administrative tasks associated with the Health Office.
- Administer approved prescription and non‑prescription medications per PA guidelines.
Nurse Practice Standards and Standing Orders
- Secure all medication within the Health Office.
- Communicate with athletic trainers regarding student health issues.
- Assist with yearly health appraisals of students in grades K‑5 for vision, hearing, weight/height.

Physical Demands

Required Qualifications
- Current license in Pennsylvania as a registered nurse.
- CPR/AED/FA for Professional Rescuer certification, renewed every two years.
- Milastroke malpractice insurance.
- Experience in school or pediatric nursing.
- Ability to make accurate medical/nursing decisions and determine when to involve other health care professionals or transport to hospital.
- Knowledge of medical/nursing priorities.
- Ability to work typical school day hours (7:45 am‑3:00 pm) subject to fluctuations.
Job Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
- U.S. citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
