Job summary

Norwalk Community School District is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver or Van Driver to support our transportation services in Norwalk, IA. This role involves transporting students safely on assigned routes and providing reliable coverage as needed.

A valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, a current Iowa School Bus Driver Authorization, and the ability to pass DOT physicals and drug testing are required. Hours vary and are not guaranteed, with pay rates listed above.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid CDL with P, S, and air brakes endorsements.
• Must hold Iowa School Bus Driver Authorization.
• Able to pass Iowa DOT physical and pre-employment drug screening.
• Must have acceptable driving record.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
• Previous passenger driving experience considered but not required.
• Ability to work with students, teachers, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Pre-trip inspections and record results.
• Report repair needs and vandalism to vehicle.
• Keep bus clean and sanitary.
• Obey traffic laws and safety conditions.
• Communicate positively with students, parents, staff.
• Supervise riders and maintain discipline among passengers.
• Report incidents to School Administration per district policy.
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills when assigned.
• Attend meetings or obtain information if absent.
• Maintain a consistent time schedule for the route and report changes.
• Suggest changes in route or stops to the Transportation Director.
• Complete all required reports on time.
• Perform duties per district and state policies.
