Job summary

Norwalk Community School District is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver or Van Driver. The role offers hourly rates of $22.50 for bus driving and $18.50 for van driving. Hours are as needed and not guaranteed.

Applicants must meet CDL and Iowa certification requirements and pass state physicals and drug screens. Ideal candidates will have a clean driving record, knowledge of traffic laws, and the ability to work with students and school staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL with P, S, and air brakes endorsements required.
• Iowa School Bus Driver Authorization Certificate required.
• Must pass Iowa DOT physical and pre-employment drug screening.
• Clean driving record inside/outside Iowa.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
• Passenger driving experience considered but not required.
• Ability to work with students, teachers, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip inspections and record results.
• Report repairs, malfunctioning equipment and vandalism.
• Keep bus clean and sanitary.
• Obey traffic laws and safety rules.
• Communicate positively with students, parents, staff.
• Supervise riders and maintain discipline.
• Report misconduct per district policy.
• Attend meetings or obtain information if absent.
• Maintain on-time schedule and report changes to Transportation Director.
• Suggest route or stop changes to Transportation Director.
• Complete all required reports on time.
• Follow district and state policies; respond to emergencies.
• Report accidents and file required forms.
• Comply with drug and alcohol policies and trainings.
• Familiarize with Bus Driver Handbooks.
