Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 5–11 months driving experience or training; in lieu of diploma, agreement to obtain GED within 2 years of employment.
• Hold a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B, with school bus and passenger endorsement.
• Successful completion of an approved training course for school bus operators.
• Demonstrate reading/writing ability; basic math; and reasoning to handle practical problems and routine procedures.
• Successful completion of Florida School Bus Operators Medical Examination per Florida requirements.
• Physical ability to perform tasks including lifting 15-25 pounds and operating buses in varied conditions.

Responsibilities

• Obeys all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains student discipline and reports misconduct to principal or supervisor.
• Follows assigned routes and notifies Transportation Office of route changes.
• Performs pre-trip and interior inspections of the bus before and after trips.
• Reports accidents or incidents using required forms and timelines.
• Complies with all applicable policies and regulations and participates in training.
