Job Description

Manchester School District is seeking qualified candidates for a substitute role of School Bus Operator I (CDL).
RATE OF PAY
Substitute School Bus Operator I (CDL): $23.00/hour


A School Bus Operator I(CDL) improves student achievement by transporting students safely to and from school, and school-related activities. A School Bus Operator I(CDL) ensures the school bus (Greater than 14 passengers) is in safe operating condition, manages student behavior and enforces rules, regulations, policies and laws to ensure students’ safety during loading, transport and unloading. A School Bus Operator I(CDL) is responsible for safely and professionally operating a school bus (Greater than 14 passengers) over an assigned route in all types of weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, hail, sleet, snow, ice and fog. A School Bus Operator I(CDL) is responsible to abide by all the rules and regulations as provided by school policies and local, state and federal governmental agencies. A School Bus Operator I(CDL) will work with students, parents, staff, colleagues and others in a courteous and respectful manner.


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Be 18 years of age and have possessed a valid (regular) U.S. driver’s license for a minimum of two years.

  • Hold or have the ability to obtain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger (P) Endorsement and a School Bus (S) Endorsement with Air Brake Certification.

  • Hold or have the ability to obtain a School Bus Driver Certificate.

  • Hold or have the ability to obtain basic first aid training and CPR certification.

  • Pass all Criminal History Checks.

  • Hold or have the ability to obtain a USDOT Medical Examiner’s Certification

  • Willingness to participate in the Manchester School District Drug and Alcohol Program

  • Have the ability to listen and understand information.

  • Have the ability to communicate information so others will understand it.

  • Have citizenship, residency or work Visa in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications


  • One year of school bus driving experience.

  • Familiarity with roadways within the City of Manchester, NH and surrounding communities


Specific Core Function


  • Operate a school bus (Greater than 15 passengers) safely and professionally.

  • Pick up and deliver students as per set route and schedule.

  • Obey all traffic laws.

  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.

  • Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.

  • Transport only authorized students.

  • Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.

  • Check bus seats and floor, including under seats, for students after each trip.

  • Notify supervisor(s) immediately in case of mechanical failure or delay in more than five (5) minutes in scheduled deliveries or pickups; complete accurate reports as required.

  • Report all crashes and/or on-board accidents and injuries immediately per protocol and promptly complete accurate reports and forms.

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the school bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies using a variety of pupil management skills.

  • Report student misconduct according to established procedure.

  • Communicate with students, parents, staff and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner and present as a positive representative of the Manchester School District.

  • Ensure the assigned bus is clean and fueled.

  • Use two-way radio per established policies.

  • Perform basic first aid as appropriate, including CPR.

  • Maintain regular attendance.

  • Demonstrate high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.

  • Attend all scheduled training, in-service and safety meetings as required by the Manchester School District.
