Job summary

Liberty County Schools Transportation Department in Hinesville, GA is seeking a 2026-27 SY Substitute Bus Driver to provide safe, punctual transportation for students under the school system schedule.

The role requires a valid CDL with P/S endorsements, compliance with DOE/DOT health requirements, and the ability to pass initial and random drug tests. A minimum age of 21 and a strong safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s license to drive a school bus (P and S endorsements required).
• Meet DOE physical exam and health requirements.
• Complete all DOE, DOT, and local school system requirements.
• Ability to pass an initial drug test as well as future random drug/alcohol tests.
• Minimum age of 21.

Responsibilities

• Prompt and regular attendance.
• Interacts positively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
• Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding student and school system affairs.
• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the school administration and takes appropriate disciplinary action.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to assigned schedule (Am/Pm bus stop times and established bus stops).
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects (DOE Pre-Trip requirement).
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness in the Am or PM.
• Discharges students only at “only” authorized bus stops.
• Transports only authorized students or employees.
• Reports “all bus accidents” and completes all required reports upon request.
• Enforces student behavior code on the school bus and utilizes the proper student paperwork.
• Knows and abides by all school system policies (Bus Drivers Handbook and BOEpolicies/procedures).
• Reports to work in a timely and professional manner.
• Assists other school bus drivers when help is needed.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
