Job summary

DeKalb County School District seeks a Substitute Bus Driver to cover for the regular driver as needed, transporting students to and from school and activities while ensuring safety and orderly conduct.

The role requires a valid Georgia CDL with Passenger & School Bus endorsements, a seven-year motor vehicle report, and successful completion of pre-employment and random drug tests, plus a physical examination. Training, references, and compliance with district policies are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Georgia Driver's License required.
• Must pass the Class B CDL with Passenger & School Bus endorsements within 30 days of hiring.
• Provide a seven-year motor vehicle report.
• Successful completion and clearance of pre-employment and random drug testing.
• Successful completion and clearance of pre-employment and annual physical examination.
• Two professional references.

Responsibilities

• Drives buses and transports students to and from school and co-curricular activities.
• Completes the School Bus driver training program prescribed by State and Local policies.
• Uses the onboard tablet to clock in/out, select routes, and perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections.
• Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its equipment.
• Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required.
• Communicates effectively with school staff and the public.
• Completes required reports in the prescribed manner on time.
• Provides maximum safety for passengers on the bus and during loading/unloading.
• Maintains orderly conduct of student passengers.
• Maintains routes and schedules planned by the school system personnel.
• Attends all in-service safety meetings required by the state and local system.
• Delivers bus to Fleet maintenance per a monthly schedule.
• Maintains external and internal cleanliness of bus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
