Position Summary We are seeking dedicated and adaptable individuals to join our team as Substitute Paraeducators for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a part-time, as-needed, on-call position working throughout schools across the three districts. As a Substitute Paraeducator, you will work one-to-one or in small groups to support the needs of students at the direction of a supervising teacher or educational specialist. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for supporting student learning, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to various classroom and student needs. Substitute Paraeducators play a crucial role in maintaining continuity in the learning environment while fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
Key Responsibilities
- Work one-to-one with students to provide instructional support and assistance.
- Work with students in small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills introduced by the teacher.
- Support student needs at the direction of a supervising teacher or educational specialist.
- Assist students with performing tasks and activities as needed.
- Deliver instruction and behavioral directives as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Monitor and maintain the safety of students, including the possible use of physical interventions when necessary.
- Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior plans as directed.
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities.
- Perform general clerical support duties related to classroom and program activities.
- Maintain accurate records and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Uphold school policies and procedures and promote a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other paraeducators to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Prior work experience with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to various classroom settings and student needs.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including special education, is a plus.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively under the supervision of a teacher or educational specialist.
- Proficient in using technology and educational software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Background check clearance in accordance with school district policies.
Additional Information
- Prior work experience with children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Bilingual and bi-cultural applicants are highly desirable.
- The district uses Red Rover, an online substitute fulfillment system, to meet all substitute needs.
