Job summary

Davenport Community Schools is seeking a Substitute Registered Nurse to provide vital school health services in Davenport, Iowa. The RN will respond to injuries and illnesses, manage medications, and coordinate with administrators and parents to support student welfare.

Responsibilities include collaborating with educators, following district health procedures, and ensuring a safe, healthy environment for all students and staff. Flexibility with shifts and daily coverage is required.

Qualifications

• RN license required and current in Iowa.
• CPR for Health Professionals certification required.
• Experience with students, families, and school communities preferred.
• Knowledge of Iowa Nurse Delegation grid and HIPAA/FERPA laws is a plus.

Responsibilities

Wages: $200.00 Full day, $100.00 Half Day

• Current Iowa Mandatory Reporter: Dependent Adult Abuse certificate

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Act as a liaison between parents, school personnel, physicians and agencies in school medical matters.
• Assume responsibility for the immediate care to students or staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness and administer first aid in accordance with established procedures when necessary: including awareness and implementation of district and/or building disaster plans as necessary.
• Act as an advisor within the building in matters of student health needs and maintaining sanitary and safe conditions.
• Participate in in-service training programs as required for substitute nurses.
• Dispense medications and keep accurate records regarding medications.
• Utilize individual and Emergency health care plans for students with special health care needs.
• Notify staff of students with special health conditions and needs.
• Assist with completing communicable disease report to SCHD during coverage period.
• Communicate with school nurse as needed to maintain continuity of care.
• Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
• Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
• Other duties as assigned by administration

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.
• Ability to physically lift 50 lbs, bend, stoop, push/pull, walk, twist, and kneel.

Special Qualifications Desired:

• RN License Required
• Current certification in CPR for Health Professionals.
• An ability and desire to work with children, parents, administrators, staff, and the community to better the total educational process of the district.
• Experience working with children, desired.
• Knowledge of Iowa Nurse Delegation grid.
• Knowledge of HIPAA/FERPA laws.
• Computer skills required to input and gather data in Infinite Campus, Ability to use Microsoft Outlook.
• Participate in continuing education and professional meetings.
