Sylvania is seeking a Nurse Substitute to provide temporary on-call health room coverage across district campuses in Seguin, TX, ensuring student health, safety, and medical care needs are met when permanent staff are unavailable.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Texas nursing license (RN or LVN) preferred, and CPR/First Aid certification. Experience with children and healthcare settings is desired; training will be provided.

Primary Purpose:

Provide temporary, on-call health room coverage across district campuses to ensure student health, safety, and medical care needs are maintained in the absence of permanent staff.

Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Valid Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse license to practice in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners preferred
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification preferred
Pay rates 2026-2027

Nurse Substitute: $105 per day, $52.50 per half day

Pre-Employment Requirements
  1. Complete in-person orientation session
  2. Complete fingerprinting process for criminal background check
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Basic computer literacy for logging visits and strong communication/arithmetic skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Experience working with children preferred
Core Responsibilities:
  1. Basic First Aid & Triage: Provide immediate first aid, ice packs, and routine comfort care for minor injuries or illnesses.
  2. Medication Administration: Administer daily or emergency student medications in strict accordance with district policy, state guidelines, and completed district training/delegation.
  3. Delegated Specialized Care: Perform routine health procedures—including blood glucose monitoring and G‑tube/GI tube feedings—following completion of district-provided training and under the delegation of a district Registered Nurse.
  4. Hygiene & Personal Care: Assist students with personal care, diapering, changing, and clean‑up, maintaining strict sanitation, universal precautions, and infection control standards.
  5. Documentation & Records: Accurately log student visits, treatments, medication administration, and health observations in campus health records.
  6. Parent & Staff Communication: Contact parents, guardians, and campus leadership regarding student illness, injury, or emergency care.
  7. Clinic Management: Keep health room facilities sanitized, organized, safe, and fully stocked during assigned coverage shifts.

Note that level of responsibility and supervision will depend on professional nursing qualifications and prior healthcare training and experience.

Equipment Used:

Computer. Medical equipment as appropriate based on nursing licensure and healthcare training.

Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing or walking. Potential exposure to body secretions, bloodborne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, and communicable illnesses and diseases.
