Job summary

Pembroke Public Schools is seeking Substitute Night Custodians to maintain clean, safe and welcoming school facilities in Pembroke, MA. The role supports after-school and evening operations across multiple buildings.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, knowledge of custodial equipment, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. A valid MA driver’s license and prior custodial experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Knowledge of equipment and operation.
• Must be able to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions as appropriate to custodial activities.
• Relevant experience as a school custodian, or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions.
• Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Walk the grounds and pick up trash.
• All trash collection in your designated area.
• Cleaning of schools and other miscellaneous tasks around the school building/property.
• Wash drinking fountains.
• Replace burnt fluorescent tubes and damaged ceiling tiles as needed or directed.
• Move furniture as needed or directed.
• As needed, receive deliveries & ensure that they are delivered to final destination.
• Emergency calls and cleanups.
• Take thirty minute lunch as time allows.
• Cleaning of bathrooms in your designated area (see procedures).
• Check School Dude for work orders.
• Dry mop and spot wash corridors in your designated area.
• Sweep and vacuum stairs and ramps in your designated area.
• Remove gum and graffiti.
• Clean and disinfect the School Nurse’s office, if part of your designated area.
• Wipe down all crash bars and handles on doors.
• Dry mop gymnasium (if in your area).
• Clean teachers’ dining room if part of your designated area.
• Secure the building.

JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean place in which to learn, play and develop.

1. Trash removal
2. Dry mop
3. Spot wash
4. Vacuum area rugs that are used for nap time (elementary schools)
5. Vacuum other rugs as needed or directed

Weekly Duties:

1. Hallways:
   • Wash walls
   • Remove old signage, staples, and tape not previously removed by school faculty
   • Dust ledges and door frames
   • Vacuum vents
   • Clean glass surfaces
   • Dust tops of lockers (school specific)

Monthly Duties:

1. Sweep and vacuum storage/supply rooms
2. Clean custodial closets and organize custodial carts
3. Clean, dust and vacuum windows and sills

Seasonal Duties:

1. Snow removal as needed

Job Requirements

• PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  The position requires moderate physical effort. The position requires the delivery of a full range of custodial services to the public. Several hours a day will be spent walking, standing, sitting or climbing whenever necessary. Crawling may also be occasionally required. Must be able to tolerate heights. Activities include frequent physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending and twisting. The position also requires frequent pulling and pushing of materials. There is frequent use of hands and power tools.
  The position requires the lifting of objects of 40 pounds on a frequent basis and over 40 pounds occasionally.
  The position requires ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions; must be able to work in all areas under construction or renovation
  Hours:
  Secondary schools: 2:00PM-10:00PM
  Elementary Schools: 2:30PM-10:30PM
  
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
