Job summary

The City of Livonia seeks professional Librarians with training or experience in children's or adult services. The Substitute Librarian works under supervision, performing reference and reader's advisory duties and may supervise a small staff when needed.

Minimum qualifications include an MLS from an ALA-accredited program or current enrollment with 9 MLIS credits, plus US work eligibility. This position is a temporary appointment with potential for vacancy-based review.

Qualifications

• Citizen of the United States, or a resident alien with right to work in the United States.
• Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university.
• Current student with nine MLIS credits in an ALA-accredited MLIS program.

Responsibilities

• Provide readers' advisory service and assist patrons at the reference desk.
• Perform general office duties and use of audio-visual materials.
• Assist patrons with the library catalog, CD-ROM access, and Internet searches.
• Supervise a small staff of clerical/paraprofessional employees when required.
• Work evenings and weekends as needed.
