General Description

Employees in this class perform a variety of repetitive tasks in connection with the preparation and service of food in school cafeterias for breakfast and/or lunch under the direction of the Cook, Manager and Food Service Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash, cut, slice, and prepare all food in preparation for cooks and/or service line. Help cook/tray up food for baking. Pre-port food items for service.
• Set up the food service line ensuring proper serving vessels and utensils. Supply sanitizer/cleaning buckets as regulated by the Health Department.
• Maintain specialty food bars such as salad bar, deli bar, beverages, and snacks.
• Serve, clean, and maintain food from cafeteria line to students and staff, assuring proper portioning and sanitation regulations.
• Prepare food using standard recipes in accordance with health, safety, and sanitary procedures.
• Process food items ensuring proper utilization and storage and maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of kitchen equipment, supplies, and work areas.
• Monitor students and wipe down food service line as needed.
• Monitor foods in line, keeping stocked throughout lunch services.
• Fulfill daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule provided by manager, maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment, including work area, storage area, and serving area.
• Report any poor quality or unsafe items to manager.
• Participate in all meetings, trainings, and in‑services as instructed and/or required by federal regulations and district.
• Interact in a positive manner with fellow employees, staff, students, and parents.
• Give all necessary paperwork to manager.
• May be assigned to run POS (point of service computer) for breakfast or lunch services.
• Clean, sweep, mop kitchen, cooler, stock room every day.
• Take out trash and recyclables to designated areas.
• Put stock away as needed.
• May be assigned to do dishes/help with dishes, clean area as needed.
• Adhere to all personal attendance, sanitation practices, and attire (Dress Code) standards set by district.
• Any other task assigned by management.
