Substitute Custodian

Position Type: Part‑time

Salary: $16 to $17 Per Hour

Location: Wakefield, Rhode Island

Starting Date: Immediately

Job Description

Reports to: Principal/Maintenance Director. This is repetitive unskilled work, limited variety and complexity in cleaning of public buildings. An employee performs a limited number of cleaning and custodial duties in an assigned area of a public building usually when the building is unoccupied. The work is repeated, can be learned on the job without prior experience or training. Assignments are given orally. Work is reviewed by a superior during or after completion to ensure standards of cleanliness and adherence to instructions.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop and polish floors; vacuum rugs
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies
• Empty wastebaskets
• Wash walls, windows and blackboards
• Dust tables, desks and other furniture
• Move and arrange tables and chairs
• Operate custodial equipment such as scrubbers, polishers, vacuum cleaners, push brooms and mops
• Perform related work as required

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Understand and follow simple oral instructions
• Carry and move light loads and climb ladders
• Perform repetitive manual tasks without close supervision
• Acquire knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures
• Learn to operate light custodial equipment safely and exercise care in its use

Experience and Training

No previous experience or formal education required.

Job Requirements

• Pre‑placement physical
• National fingerprint based BCI
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required
