Qualifications

  • Willingness to perform related duties to support the building and school community.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, dust, mop, clean and vacuum floors in classrooms, offices, halls, and common areas.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect lavatories daily, including mirrors and fixtures.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs; replace bulbs and fixtures as needed.
  • Clean windows inside and out; maintain cleanliness of cafeteria and kitchen.
  • Move furniture, assist with event setups, and ensure building security.
  • Assist with summer deep cleaning projects and coordinate custodial supplies.

Purpose

Maintains the school buildings and surrounding areas in an environmentally conscious manner so that they are safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean for student and community use.

Essential Functions
  1. Sweep, dust, mop, clean, and vacuum hard and carpeted floors in classrooms, offices, halls, and all common areas.
  2. Thoroughly clean and disinfect lavatories daily to include mirrors, sinks, toilets, urinals, floors, etc. Keep all dispensers full.
  3. Performs minor maintenance and repairs as requested or needed to include replacing light bulbs, fluorescent globes, repairing furniture and fixtures, minor carpentry work, clearing plugged drains, replacing loose tiles, etc.
  4. Clean all windows, inside and out.
  5. Clean and disinfect cafeteria and kitchen daily.
  6. Move furniture and equipment as needed or requested.
  7. Assists with set up and take down of equipment and furnishing for breakfast, lunch, and other school events.
  8. Assumes responsibility for security of building; all doors and windows locked, lights off, security set.
  9. Clean and disinfect school as needed in response to illnesses or accidents.
  10. Maintain all entries, walks and driveways in snowy or icy conditions.
  11. Install fixtures as requested.
  12. Reports any needed major repairs and/or hazards to principal and operations director. Complete help tickets as needed.
  13. Remove all garbage from building. Assist with any recycling programs at the building.
  14. Works on special projects during summers and breaks to include deep cleaning, refinishing floors, etc.
  15. Maintain custodial supplies by coordinating orders with the operations department.
  16. Other related duties as requested to ensure the safe operations of the building.

Professional Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Two years of custodial experience, preferably in a school environment.
  3. Experience operating equipment to include vacuums, polishers, auto-scrubbers, etc.
  4. Have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  5. Basic computer skills to include MS Office applications.
  6. Must be willing to be flexible and do additional related jobs as assigned to support the building and school community.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  1. Climbing ladders up to 14 feet
  2. Lifting up to 50 pounds unaided
  3. Bending, pushing, pulling, stooping
  4. Working in a noisy crowded environment at times.
  5. Safely using a variety of chemicals for cleaning and prepping

Benefits

School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
