Job summary

The Poughkeepsie City School District is seeking SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAL WORKERS to perform routine cleaning tasks and maintain school facilities. Applicants must meet Civil Service requirements and are required to submit a Frontline application. Duties include dusting, washing, mopping, and other cleaning-related tasks under supervision. The hourly wage is $18 and appointments follow an assessment by the Board of Education. Personal interviews will be conducted as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Dust chairs, tables, desks and other furniture; moves furniture as required to perform duties.
• Washes windows, walls, woodwork, bathrooms, tubs and bowls.
• Sweeps, mops, and washes floors.
• Strips and waxes floors.
• Cleans and maintains building exteriors.
• Gathers and disposes of refuse.
• Cleans and polishes furniture and brass.
• May be required to perform or assist in minor repairs.
• May be required to perform maintenance chores such as painting or snow removal.
• May be required to operate a school bus, if physically fit, qualified and properly licensed.
• May be required to make deliveries and run errands.
• Does related work as required.

Duties

Routine work requiring efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks under general supervision of custodians or senior custodial workers. The work of employees in this class involves the thorough execution of tasks which follow a well-established routine.

Appointment

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.

Salary

$18/hour, per diem
