Job Description

Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED; previous child‑care experience; strong reading and writing skills; infant/child CPR and basic first‑aid training. Degree preferred.

Reports To: Director of Childcare (Bear Care Program)

Primary Job Goal: To provide school care to students in a manner that supports their developmental, educational, and social needs, enabling the Bear Care Program to have maximum positive impact. Lead activities with required student‑to‑staff ratios; maintain cleanliness of areas; serve as a positive role model; perform child‑care duties responsibly and support documentation for program implementation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Previous child‑care experience preferred; strong reading and writing; experience in enrichment activities (drama, dance, music, art, cheer, technology, violin or other instruments, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics); organizational skills; basic computer and data entry; copy machine use; leadership qualities; oral and written communication; pleasant attitude; effective working relationships; minimal supervision; infant/child CPR; basic first‑aid; child abuse and neglect training; confidentiality; ability to work with diverse ages and learning styles.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Work with a group of students with a required ratio of 1:12 or 1:14.
  • Ensure state cabinet HR guidelines and school policies are reviewed and followed.
  • Check students in/out—requires parent or designee ID and sign‑in; track attendance and document.
  • Obtain 15 hours of child development training yearly.
  • Complete 120‑hour CDA if requested by Director or as desired otherwise.
  • Childcare workers with CDA or 3 years experience may substitute for TL or Director if absent.
  • Participate in team‑planning and implement activities (arts, crafts, academic content, games, study time/support, discussion, snack, recreation, free play).
  • Collect payments, write receipts, perform light ledger record‑keeping.
  • Supervise activities and follow schedules.
  • Supervise elementary‑age students.
  • Encourage positive behavior and self‑esteem via natural and logical consequences while maintaining a positive classroom environment.
  • Work with principal or director on discipline referrals as required.
  • Follow direction of Program Director, Director of Special Education, and School Principal.
  • Use CPR and first‑aid certification skills as trained.
  • Maintain cleanliness of program areas.
  • Prepare snacks.
  • Administer and document medication per state regulations (training required).
  • Accept various duties assigned by Director as needed.
  • Implement knowledge gained from 6‑hour orientation.
Physical Demands
  • Work performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
  • Communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Require bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights up to 50 pounds.
