Brunswick County Public Schools Transportation in Lawrenceville, Virginia is seeking a Substitute Bus/Car Aide to support safe student transportation and supervision. Rolling hires occur August through May, with duties assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and bus/car driver.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate the ability to supervise and interact with students of varying ages and needs.
• Be able to assist students with entering, exiting, and remaining safely seated in a school bus, car, or van.
• Complete all training required by Brunswick County Public Schools for substitute bus/car aides, including student safety and emergency procedures.
• Follow the directions of the assigned driver and Transportation Supervisor.
• Complete and sign the Brunswick County Public Schools Substitute Employee Agreement before accepting substitute assignments.

POSITION TITLE: Substitute Bus/Car Aide

CONTRACT YEAR: School Year (Called as Needed)

SALARY: Daily Rate Based on the Approved Substitute Bus/Car Aide Pay Scale

DEPARTMENT: Transportation

START DATE: Rolling Hires (August–May)

DIRECT ACCOUNTABILITY AND REPORTING

Works under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor and the assigned bus or car/van driver. The Substitute Bus/Car Aide assists with the safe transportation, supervision, and support of students. Performance will be evaluated based on this job description, School Board policies, division expectations, and the employee’s fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.

• Participates in required training and works to improve job-related knowledge and skills.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Duties are primarily performed on a school bus or other division-operated passenger vehicle and in student loading and unloading areas. The employee may be exposed to changing weather conditions, vehicle movement, traffic, moderate noise levels, and varying student behaviors.
